The Islamic Online University (IOU) in Riyadh recently organized an awareness day to discuss the need for Muslim experts in various fields, including finance, education, psychology and missionary work (dawah).
Guest speaker Bilal Philips and IOU students highlighted to the attendees the importance of education and congratulated the first batch of students for graduating from the Islamic studies program (BAIS).

IOU student-committees across the world organized an IOU awareness day to share the recent launch of the online authentic Islamic knowledge courses. The event was commemorated in many locations including Dubai, Pakistan, India, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Kenya, and the United Kingdom, amongst other countries.

IOU's motto "Changing the Nation through Education," reflects the university's goal to reach as many individuals seeking to learn about Islam as possible.

Mohammad Abu Shabaan, another guest speaker, stressed that the core source of knowledge in Islam is the Qur'an and the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Abu Shabaan entertained the audience with his stories and experiences in dawah. He concluded by highlighting that through knowledge and education one can achieve success in this world and the next.

IOU aims to provide high quality and authentic Islamic education to Muslims across the world. The university initially began by offering diploma programs when it launched in 2007 and now offers students bachelor degrees in Islamic Studies (BAIS).

There is a special bridge to obtain a masters program (BMAIS), designed for those who want to join the masters program but do not have a prior bachelors degree in Islamic Studies.

To maintain a high standard of education, IOU has based its curriculum on the curricula of the Islamic University of Madinah, Omdurman Islamic University in Sudan and Al-Azhar University of Cairo.

Arjumand Warsy, professor at King Saud University, stressed the importance of seeking knowledge by quoting many verses.

"A Muslim cannot succeed with merely worldly knowledge and a professional degree in science or arts, however, it is Islamic knowledge that will guide individuals to reap maximum benefits in this life and the next," she said.

She urged the audience to participate in learning and spreading Islamic knowledge.

The event included various interactive sessions presented by the IOU-Riyadh student body. Student representatives explained the various study programs offered, the registration process and the services offered by IOU. The audience enthusiastically participated and won prizes in the Islamic quiz conducted during the intervals of the program.
